SYNOPSIS
The documentary “Bridges upon Bridges” tells the story of seven artists from different continents and countries who have integrated into Austria but have remained largely undiscovered. They were either born and raised here or came to Austria decades ago.
Their social belonging to a particular community gives dynamic expression to their art and cultural work. With their art, they function as mirror images of these different communities.
The questions raised by the film delve into themes such as: ‘Art’, ‘Culture’, ‘Woman’, ‘Migration’, ‘Rootlessness’, ‘Identity’, ‘Estrangement’ and ‘Racism’.
As pioneers in the migrant art and culture scene, each provide insights from their unique points of view into their living environments, experiences, problems, hopes and expectations. These insights are shown in close connection with each artist’s work.
