Kenan Kılıç came to film through freelance work on the ORF series “Heimat, Fremde Heimat” between 1989 and 1990. After a series of short films, he made his first feature film “Nachtreise”, with which he won the Vienna Film Prize at the Viennale in 2002. He then pursued his first documentary “Gurbet – In der Fremde”. The themes of identity, migration, and integration run through his cinematic oeuvre.
